The Work
Eight questions. What you write here is read by your facilitator so he can help you, and by nobody else. It does not go to your officer, your school, or your family, and it is not in any report. Three of these you do not write down at all.
Week 1 of 23 · Identity and Purpose
Who were you at nine? What were you into, what did you do when nobody was around, what made you laugh. If you cannot get to it, write about why.
Why does it matter whether you picked this or drifted into it?
- A It does not, you ended up in the same place either way.
- B If you picked it you are built wrong, and nobody who believes that tries. If you drifted, you can steer.
- C Drifting means none of it is on you.
- D Picking it means you are stronger than the ones who drifted.
When did people stop treating you like a kid? Write the year, what changed about you, and how much of it you actually decided.
You can read people fast and feel a room change before anybody speaks. What is that?
- A Paranoia you need to get rid of.
- B Something everybody can do.
- C Real intelligence, learned to stay alive, that reads danger well and opportunity poorly.
- D Proof that something is wrong with you.
Nothing to write and nobody reads this one. Which version did you put on, and how old were you when you started? Sit with it for a minute before you move on.
Go through your phone in your head. Who is going where you are trying to go, who is standing still, and who is going somewhere you cannot follow? Then answer which one you are, in somebody else’s phone.
God found Gideon hiding in a pit and called him a mighty warrior. What is the point of that?
- A God overlooks where you are.
- B Gideon was secretly brave the whole time.
- C God names a man by what He put in him, not by what he has been doing.
- D God needed somebody and he was there.
Nobody reads this one either. Gideon told God he was the least in his family. If God called you something today that did not match how you have been living, what is the first reason you would give Him for why He has the wrong man? And who taught you that reason?
Nothing you write here goes to your officer, your school or your family.
