Week 1 · Lesson 3
The Work
Eight questions. What you write is read by your facilitator and by nobody else. It does not go to your officer, your school, or your family, and it is not in any report. Two of these you do not write down at all.
Week 1 of 23 · Identity and Purpose
The last time you tried to change, how long did it last and what ended it? Be specific about the day it stopped.
Why does willpower keep running out around two weeks?
- A You did not want it bad enough.
- B You are trying to quit something without trading it for anything, and nobody can sit in an empty room.
- C You told the wrong people about it.
- D Two weeks is just how long anything lasts.
What does that life actually give you that you would miss on a Tuesday night? Write the real list, not the one you would say out loud in a group.
Nobody reads this one. If everything you own was gone and everybody who respects you forgot your name, what is left of you?
Ephesians 2 says saved by grace, not by works, and then says you were made for good works. What changed?
- A Nothing, it contradicts itself.
- B The order. You do not work to be worth something. You are worth something, so you work.
- C Works matter more than grace in the end.
- D Grace is only for the beginning.
Walk with, love from a distance, carry. Put your people in the three groups. Then write which one you are in their phone, and whether being around you makes it easier or harder for somebody trying to change.
Jesus called Levi off a table where he was taking money from his own neighborhood. What does that show?
- A Levi was better than people thought.
- B Nobody had to get cleaned up first to be wanted.
- C Jesus needed somebody who could count.
- D Levi had already quit before that day.
This will take everything you have, not most of it. Write what you are actually willing to give up to get out, and then write what you are not willing to give up yet. The second list is the honest one.
Nothing you write here goes to your officer, your school or your family.
